Cape Mentelle: The Long Table

ABOUT
Cape Mentelle is one of the founding wineries of Margaret River, making wine there since 1970. Working with New York agency NR2154, we shot the campaign around two set pieces: a long table lunch staged in the vineyard, with the food and wine at the centre of it, and a picnic on the coast at sunset, taking the wine to the beaches the region is known for.

APPROACH
Set-piece scenes like these are art department jobs as much as camera jobs, and with the agency in New York, nothing could be left to shoot-day discovery. A month out we ran a full scout, building the long table and the picnic exactly as they'd appear and sending live feeds back to NR2154 so every frame was approved before the shoot existed. By the time cameras rolled, the creative team had already seen the campaign. The long table still took a day of styling, talent and timing to look effortless, and the beach gave us one window of usable light, but both scenes ran to plans that had been signed off from the other side of the world.
IMPACT
Cape Mentelle got campaign imagery that puts its wine back where the brand story starts, in the vineyard and on the coast between those two oceans. For us the page proves the white-label model works at luxury level: an international agency ran the creative, we made it real in WA, and the work went out into the world under a brand that answers to a global standard. For agencies with a job on this coast, the live-feed scout is the model: you approve every frame from your desk, and we make it real on ours.
